Prairie Moon...
About 15 years ago Will Sullivan (bass) and Ron (acoustic guitar) and
Tim Callaway (lead acoustic guitar) played a small Western
music show for a group of ladies in Henrietta, Texas. We had such a
good time and the response was so great, we added another brother,
Michael Callaway (harmonica, Austin, Texas) to the band and have
continued to develop a true love for "Cowboy Music" ever since.
We write
and preform
original songs about our experience and dreams here in Texas. Our
music is about the ideas and values of the old west wrapped in four part
harmony and acoustic instrumentation.
Don Edwards, Riders in the Sky, Sons of the Pioneers, Gene and Roy have
been our idols along the way.
We recorded our first CD in 2001 and
then
added David Holcomb on fiddle shortly afterwards. We've recorded two
CDs since and sell them at our shows.
We've developed a good following
in the North Texas area and have played as far away from Wichita Falls
as Southfork, Colorado, Houston, Austin, Midland, Dallas, and parts of
Oklahoma.
We hope to see you down the Western music trail!

What does Cowboy Music mean to you?...
Cowboy music means freedom. It represents a strong, good, clean way
of life. We love to listen to the old classics and arrange them to fit
our style
and vocals/instrumentation. We were raised out in the country and love
the outdoors, campfires, being around
cattle and listening to the coyotes in the wee hours of the morning.
What I event in your life turned your heart to Cowboy Music?...
My brother and sister and I attended a Don Edwards concert in
Graham, Texas. His presentation of the cowboy life
through his music touched us all that night. I knew from then on the
music I wanted to focus on was Western music.
What draws listeners to Cowboy Music?...
I think what draws us all to cowboy music is the beautiful melodies,
the tender yet strong lyrics that express love for this country
and a simple way of life. We love acoustic music!
What's your favorite TV show?...
All time favorite is Rawhide.
What's your favorite food/meal?...
Steak, followed by TEX-Mex.
What are your interests/hobbies?...
Hobbies are writing cowboy songs, singing with Prairie Moon and
reading western novels.

What does Cowboy Music mean to you?...
If I were to distill the essence of what the meaning of "Cowboy Music" might have for me, it would include the hard reality of such a existence as this great American character had to endure, the lonesome existence, the bare necessities of life and the long endless days of drudgery and misfortune that they had to endure, and yet much of the musical lyrics tell wonderful stories of adventure, heartache, stoic yet persistant lives of simple ruggedness that endears me to them and what they accomplished as a part of a countries development including the short-lived and many times famous long cattle drives and frontier experiences taming the West and being the forerunners for later generations to build our civilizations upon to present day. I guess you might say singing about those times, experiences, men and their lives, as well as composing songs to in some way recall and represent those times is wonderful opportunity to pass along that once in history timeframe which will never be lived again!
What I event in your life turned your heart to Cowboy Music?...
I would have to say that the experience of the music itself, composing, contemplating lyrics, the story line, the characters in the songs and the colorful imagery as well as the fact that I love memorizing ALL of the words and parts of our songs, the harmony, the melodies, musicianship and just the act of making and creating of this musical art form is the singular event in my life that has attracted me (or hooked, as you say) to this genre of music for sure!
What draws listeners to Cowboy Music?...
There is no doubt some of the factors that may attract folks to "Cowboy Music" I feel include the simple lyrics and stories, the honest reality of the stories they tell, the romance of a colorful time gone bye in our history that certainly reflects the rugged frontier days of individualism and personal integrity that seem so distant in today's society where things are so, consumer driven, commercialized, complicated and rushed and sometimes seemingly out of control for many folks, I think.
What's your favorite TV show?...
If I were to recall the Western type of "Cowboy Shows" that I grew up watching as a child and certainly molded a hollywood image of what a Cowboy life might have been like might include some of the usual ones like, Roy Rogers (and the Sons of the Pioneers), Matt Dillon, Bonanza, the Rifleman, The Lone Ranger, The Virginian, Maverick, and Laramie to name a few.
What's your favorite food/meal?...
My favorite "Grub" now that is a silly question, why, "beans and bacon" of course, I do not know any other living Cowboy that would say anything else, do you? Oh, well, maybe a little jerky, on the side and or a biscuit or two if they are hard enough! No seriously, what do I not like to eat, let me think, I really do adore beans and bacon, but my favorite would have to be a well cooked sirloin steak!
What are your interests/hobbies?...
My chosen profession is medical technology and laboratory medicine. My interest and hobbies range from sailing (own a Hunter 23), astronomy, the study of Christianity, politics, economics, music (of course), travel and psychology. I love animals (have always had pets as companions), I like to ride horses, I love photography, electronics, all things digital. I like tennis, basketball, volleyball and bicycle riding. But most of all I love my family, my immediate family, my extended family (over the years we have had short term adopted house guests etc.), my brothers and sisters, my nieces and nephews and all of their kiddos!
Will Sullivan
What does Cowboy Music mean to you?...
For me, cowboy music at it's best, combines sweet melodies, straight-forward rhythms, and tight vocal harmonies to literally carry me away. I think it is the blend of musical beauty and simplicity that allow the lyrics to transport my mind and spirit from the technological 'rat race', back to campfires, critters, and fresh air.
What I event in your life turned your heart to Cowboy Music?...
I believe, if there was one event that 'hooked' me on cowboy music, it had to be when I first heard a cassette recording back in the '80's of Riders in the Sky 'live' called "Cowboy Way"
What draws listeners to Cowboy Music?...
I think the thing that draws listeners to cowboy music, at least to our shows, is simply "fun". For the older folk, I think it gives them a chance to recall the music of their youth and what they were doing when cowboy music was more or less the "pop" music of the day. I have also been told by audience listeners that we appear to have fun performing, and they seem to really like that. We do have a huge amount of fun. That's why we keep doing it and I think that it's contagious.
What's your favorite TV show?...
I've never been a big TV watcher as a priority, but I do like, "My Name Is Earl", "Austin City Limits", and old episodes of the original "Star Trek".
What's your favorite food/meal?...
I do love to eat, as anyone who has seen me might guess.
A big plate of cheesy nachos with jalapeno peppers and spicy salsa dip.
Ham and eggs, with biscuits and gravy mm!
Charcoal grilled anything
Hot peach cobbler with butter (makes me hungry just thinking about it)
What are your interests/hobbies?...
Hobby-wise, hmmm.....
Well I'm a bit of a live music 'junkie'. I love all styles of music and musicianship and don't hesitate to catch a show whenever I'm not busy or playing myself.
I love camping with friends and regularly go with the other members of Prairie Moon.
I'm an avid reader and keep a book or two (or more) going all the time.
Lately, I've developed an interest in Ufology (yes, UFO's- I'd expect they like cowboy music).
